Why for example are we faced with an obesity epidemic in children in the first place? The answer lies in the fact that our children’s lifestyles and habits have changed dramatically in recent years. This is the age when the great outdoors has been abandoned in favor of video games where children will instead sit indoors for hours on end peering at some screen. So an important part of the answer to obesity is the need to cultivate weight gain prevention habits amongst our children. More exercises, physical pastime and more outdoor activities will therefore help a great deal in fighting off obesity in children.

Then we need to appreciate the fact that genes also play a major role in the obesity problem. Obese parents are therefore much more likely to have obese children. It goes beyond genes because obese parents are also much more likely to pass down their poor habits, which promote and cause obesity, to their children.

Still the biggest cause of obesity has to be overeating. We all enjoy good food and that is the reason why diets are unlikely to work over the long run. A key point to remember here is the fact that it takes almost 20 minutes for the stomach to signal the brain that it has had enough. What this means is the most powerful weight control tip is to reduce the speed of eating. Eating slowly will help children tremendously to know when to stop and is a great way to control obesity.

The diet also matters. Diets rich in fruits, vegetables and whole-grains are very important in the fight against obesity in children.

Andrew McNaught runs the website: http://www.obesity-info-online.com which aims to educate people about the obesity issue in our world today and the ways in which we can reduce the problem.

As we look around at the current generation of children, one can notice more and more that child obesity is becoming a serious problem. A combination of technology, alternative forms of entertainment and poor food choices have greatly changed the path at which our children are taking toward the future. We are starting to see the consequences of lower energy expenditures coupled with poor nutritional habits. Unfortunately this problem is going virtually un-noticed by the majority of parents and the other people that influence our children.

Today’s technology provides children with a number of different exciting ways to spend their time. The children of today would much rather surf the internet, watch a DVD or play a video game instead of going outside to ride their bike or play in the park. These indoor activities burn very little extra energy and quite often lead to an increase in snacking. In days past parents would have a hard time getting their kids to come back inside where as now in many cases the opposite is true. They simply have a hard time getting their kids to go outside and play when these other options are available.

In addition to burning fewer calories children are being exposed to an increase of junk foods and processed foods. These types of foods have very little or no nutritional value and are loaded with trans-fats, sugar, artificial flavors and salt. An increase in technology in the food industry has made it easier to produce good tasting foods at very low cost using artificial and other low cost addictive additives. Tricky marketing that stretches the truth and convenient packaging has also made it more difficult for the consumer to seek out the product that best suits them from a quality nutrition standpoint.

Similar to any other learning process repetitive food choices at an early age have been shown to create a blueprint for the habits that a child will carry out in the future. Children brought up eating high calorie low nutritional addictive foods many times a week are more likely to keep such habits well into their adolescent and adult years.

School systems are now inviting fast food chains to come in and serve lunches instead of focusing on quality nutrition. The days of focusing on the foods groups have taken a back seat to quick and easy food service. Vending machines with candy bars, chips and sodas are positioned throughout our school systems as well. In addition many school systems have done away with Physical Education which has just added to the problem.

The increased availability of high density low quality foods with the addictive qualities of sugar, salt and trans-fats coupled with less activity have drastically changed the health and well being of our youth.

According to the US Surgeon General 61% of US adults were overweight or obese in 1999. These numbers have tripled since 1980. The same study showed 13% of children 6 to 11 and 14% of adolescent’s ages 12 to 19 were overweight or obese as well. Adolescent numbers have nearly tripled in the last two decades and are also rising at a rapid rate. These statistics show the growing severity of child obesity and that it must be addressed by making changes in the nutrition and activity levels of our youth.

Life is a classroom where we should all observe and learn and become better people. There is no better way to learn than learning from the practical experience of others.

Elvis Presley is a legend. A great singer who blazed many trails. However the cause of his death is still not conclusively known. Was it the drugs he was taking? Or his massive intake of food that finally killed him? The situation is further complicated by the fact that it is believed that he was taking some of the drugs to try and control his weight.

Did Elvis Presley’s Diet Kill Him?

We all need a minimum of 1,500 to 1,800 calories daily to stay alive. People doing heavy work and therefore burning lots of calories need even more calories, up to about 10,000 per day.

Elvis was consuming over 85,000 calories per day and was sitting around doing nothing more strenuous than reaching forward to flip the channels on his TV set. 85,000 calories is more than enough to keep an elephant alive. Presley’s favorite daily diet was a 30-cm long bread roll stuffed with bacon, peanut butter and strawberry jam. Each one had about 42,000 calories. Elvis would eat two every day together with other snacks like hamburgers and deep-fried white bread.

The answer to our question is, yes, Elvis who conquered the fickle and fiercely competitive music industry was no match to the alluring aroma and taste of food. He just ate himself to death.

Why Do Most Celebrities Have A Weight Problem?

The Elvis era ushered in a new era of super-rich celebrities. The new medium of TV helped create a new breed of super-rich entertainers. Elvis with his good looks and suggestive dancing was especially suited to it. Ever since two problems have been constantly and regularly associated with super-rich celebrities. Drugs and weight problems. For the purposes of this article, we will concentrate on weight problems.

It is useful to note that many of these big stars were literally starving and hard-up for cash just before their big break to celebrity status. Just like Elvis.

Suddenly they find themselves in a situation where they do not have to worry about money. Situations where they don’t have to retain a nine to five job to put food on the table. That’s where all the trouble seems to start.

Most of us seem to end up in a similar situation when we get comfortable jobs that we enjoy. A mildly successful junior executive or entrepreneur is bound to have a problem with obesity, no wonder it’s a national crisis.

What We Can Learn From Elvis

It is clear that had Elvis exercised, even a little, he would have lived much longer. Had he lived in this information age, he would also have had numerous other “less painful” ways of controlling his weight.

But the real danger zone, if we are to learn anything from Elvis, is in the mind. Presley had reached a situation where there was nothing left to achieve. There was no new challenge, even in the horizon, which interested him. That was the really dangerous point and that’s the really deadly place for anybody to be in. It happens to many celebrities these days with devastating consequences.

The lesson is that however successful you become, you need a constant supply of new challenges and new ventures and formidable tasks to take up all the time. It seems that it is true that when the mind goes to sleep, the body follows suite with devastating consequences.

So you ask, “How do I determine if I am Obese, Overweight or fat?” Usually 20% or more over recommendations on standard weight charts indicates that you fit into the obese category. Obesity refers specifically to having an abnormally high proportion of body fat.

An estimated 97 million adults in the United States, 55% of the population, are overweight or obese! Similar percentages exist for the United Kingdom, showing that the United Kingdom having the highest percentage in Europe.

Obesity is increasing

Largest increase has occurred in the last 10 to 15 years. Increases were seen in both sexes and all classes, with the greatest increase in 18- to 29-year-olds and in those who have achieved higher education.

Weight gain is dependent on a person’s energy intake being greater than energy expenditure. One pound (0.45 kg) is equal to 3,500 calories. Therefore, a person consuming 500 calories more than he or she expends daily will gain 1 lb a week.

Food cravings

Weight alterations in either direction cause changes in energy expenditure that favor a return to the set point. This helps explain the poor problem of recidivism following attempted weight loss. Only by reaching a lower weight for a period of time can the person get used to feeling lighter.

Children

Children become overweight for a variety of reasons. The most common causes are genetic factors, lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, or a combination of these factors. In rare cases, a medical problem, such as an endocrine disorder, may cause a child to become overweight. Your physician can perform a careful physical exam and some blood tests, if necessary, to rule out this type of problem.

TIPS

A sensible diet and some exercise, has shown to be the most effective thing to do.

A key point is not to eat too much junk food and to ensure you get the basic nutrition your body needs. You should eat at least two portions of fruit and vegetables each day. We would highly recommend supplementing your diet with super foods.

Physical activity is a necessary component of every weight loss plan.

Eat three meals a day at about the same time each day sitting at a table.

Eat slowly.

Avoid distractions such as television or magazines.

Cook smaller amounts; use smaller plates.

Avoid second helpings.

Scrape plates directly into the garbage.

By following the steps above you can not only rid yourself of the known dangers of being obese, but also you can increase your energy levels and feel better.

Definition of Obesity

Excess amount of body fat is Obesity.
Excess weight of muscles, bone, fat and water in the body (like body builders and athletes) is Overweight.
Over weighted persons are at increased health risk than normal persons. They are more prone to chronic diseases like heart diseases, type-2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and few types of cancers.

Is fat necessary to our body?

Certain amount of body fat does the following function

1. Heat insulation.

2. Absorption of shock.

3. Storage of energy. Etc.

Ayurveda describes the functions of body fat as

“Medaha sneha swedaudhrudatwam pushtim asthyancha”
This means in normal conditions the body fat keeps the body moisturized, causes sweating, gives energy to body (by storing energy) and nourishes bones. (By protecting them from shock)

Distribution of fat

Women have more body fat than men. In women usually the fat accumulates around hips giving them a pear shape. In men it accumulates around belly giving them an apple shape. The obesity related problems start when fat accumulates around waist.

In ayurveda the distribution of fat is described as follows:

Medastu sarvabhutaanamudarenvasthi thishtathi

Ata evodare vriddhihi prayo medaswino bhavet

Fat gets deposited in and around belly in all living beings. It is also present in bone. Hence when a person becomes obese his stomach bulges out.

And also the characters of an obese person are described as
“Medo mamsa ativriddhatvaachalasphigudarastanaha” which means the hips, belly and breasts of an obese person sag and sagged parts flap as that person moves. An obese person will not be active.

Causes of Obesity

When a person consumes more calories than he burns then the excess calories get stored in the form of fat causing obesity.

1. Genetic factors-Obesity tends to run in families. If parents are fat then the offspring also show a tendency to accumulate fat. Even the diet and lifestyle habits which are practiced in family also contribute to obesity.

2. Environment. - A person’s eating habits and the level of physical activities a person has also contribute for excess deposition of fat. When a person eats food containing more calories and has a sedentary work then the calories consumed are more than calories burnt. The excess amount calories are stored as fat.

3. Psychological disturbances.- There is a tendency to over eat in response to negative emotions like boredom, sadness or anger. This leads to obesity.

4. Binge eating disorder.

5. Diseases and conditions like Hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome, Depression, and certain neurological problems lead to overeating which in turn leads to accumulation of fat.

6. Medicines such as steroids and some antidepressants may cause weight gain.

Causes of obesity according to Ayurveda

The causes of obesity are very clearly explained in ayurveda. The following reasons which are mentioned in ayurveda increase the deposition of fat.

Avayamadivaaswapnashleshmalaaaharasevinaha |
Madhuroannarasaha prayaha snehamedhovivardhati ||
According to ayurveda the causes of obesity are defined as:

1. Avyayama: Not exerting physically

2. Divaswapna: Sleeping in afternoon.

3. Shleshmala Ahara Vihara: The diet and life styles which increase Kapha

4. Madhura Annaha: Consuming sweetened foods.

Health risks due to Obesity

Obesity leads to the following problems.

1. Type-2 diabetes

2. Heart disease.

3. High Blood pressure.

4. Stroke

5. Few types of Cancers

6. Gall stones

7. Liver diseases

8. Osteo arthritis.

9. Gout

10. Infertility

11. Irregular menstruation in women.

According to Ayurveda the obese persons are more prone to the following diseases.

1. Diabetes.

2. Kidney related problems.

3. Hepatitis.

4. Low libido.

5. Low energy levels.

6. Skin problems.

7. Fistula

8. Piles.

9. Filariasis . etc

Tips to reduce Obesity

1. Determine with the help of your physician how much weight has to be reduced.

4. Even small weight losses have shown to be beneficial.

Obesity, especially in the midriff, is the sluice gate for all health problems and is difficult to reduce. I am overweight, by that standard, and am heavy by 13kgs. Aggravating this problem, I met with an accident which had resulted in a spinal fracture near L-5 which pinched the nerves controlling the lower limbs. By sheer luck, I escaped and even after surgery, I continued to have sciatic pain on both limbs and was unable to bend and lift even small weights. I could not do any physical exercise and very soon, my stamina and energy had reduced and I used to get tired very soon. Joining this bandwagon of health problems, I contracted diabetes also which made things worse. My normal day to day functions were totally affected, till…

One of my friends, who is a local distributor for nutrition products recommended the health products to me, with the guarantee that the excess weight would come down and the energy level would be increased due to the nutrition required by the body is available in the product. On his advice, I attended a seminar on nutrition, conducted by the company . In fact, when I had gone for the meeting, I had low back pain and had strong pain-killer tablets with me.
In America today, it is estimated that over 65% of the population is overweight with around 30% being at least clinically obese. Even more alarming is the estimation that 15% to 20% of the country’s children are overweight with nearly one third being at least clinically obese.

Now more than ever, something needs to be done to reverse this growing trend and prevent it from becoming an even bigger epidemic than it already is. By sitting back and allowing our children to become overweight and eventually obese, we are in effect severely shorting their lives.

The main ingredient in helping to eliminate child obesity is recognition. As parents, we can not take the stand that it is healthy for our children to be round and plump. Yes they need to eat enough to be healthy and to grow properly, but we must know where to draw the line between what is a healthy weight and what is excessive weight.

Often, parents will push food on their children with the idea that they need more food because they are growing. The fact is however, the energy expenditure required for growth accounts for only around 2% of their daily energy expenditure. With this in mind, a child’s appetite should be taken into account when determining how much they need to eat.

Over eating is more of a learned thing than one that just develops on its own. Children, much like adults, if given a well balanced diet with limited access to junk food and fast food, will eat all they need and stop when they are done. Forcing them to eat beyond that point, as well as giving them as much junk food and fast food as they want, only teaches them to over eat from an early age. This habit then usually carries over into their adult lives.

Sometimes when a parent does notice that their child is overweight, they will try to push diets on them that are too low in calories. This is not good for them either. They still need a certain amount of calories for their growth and restricting their calories too much can interfere with the normal growth process. It is better here to simply bring them back to the proper amount of calories they should be getting. Since they were over eating before, going to a normal amount of food will make them lose the extra weight just fine.

Last but certainly not least, lack of exercise is part of the reason that so many children get fat. The average school kid today spends more time watching TV and playing video games than they spend in school. Even when they are in school, most kids only get around 60 to 90 minutes maximum of physical education per week.

The bottom line here is, if we don’t stop over feeding our kids, and we don’t limit their intake of junk food and fast food, and we don’t limit their TV and video game time and get them more active, we will be creating an epidemic of obesity for our children that will reach truly epic proportions.

I’m sure everyone has heard this argument before but I believe it has ever been completely resolved. Diet pop is known for being a healthy weight loss drink when really there is not any proof that it is healthier and better for weight loss than regular pop. So is diet pop bad for you?

The University of Texas Health Science Center over went an 8 years study with over 1,550 people of all backgrounds, body types etc. to find out if there is a link between diet pop and obesity.

In their study, they learned that people that drink diet pop have a 41% increase risk in being overweight for every pop a person consumes each day. But what was more appealing was that people who drink diet pop had a 67% chance of being overweight when people drink regular pop they only had a 47% chance of being overweight.

So for regular soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:

26 percent for up to 1/2 can each day
30.4 percent for 1/2 to one can each day
32.8 percent for 1 to 2 cans each day
47.2 percent for more than 2 cans each day.

For diet soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:

36.5 percent for up to 1/2 can each day
40.1 percent for 1/2 to one can each day
57.3 percent for 1 to 2 cans each day
66.7 percent for more than 2 cans each day.

Another interesting thing I have learned was consuming artificial sweeteners of any kind actually showed to increase people’s cravings for food. You can think of it kind of like this; your body thinks your giving it food but the artificial sweeteners are zero calories so it craves food to make up for your bodies hunger leading you to eat more than you would of before.

I always wonder does diet pop really make people gain weight or is it when people think their overweight they start drinking diet pop. I contacted one of my all time favorite fitness professionals to ask him this same question and to my surprise he had done research and an actual study with 100 people on diet vs. regular.

The study consisted of two groups of people having a group drink only regular pop, and the other group drink only diet pop for 3 straight months. After the 3 months a body composition test was taken and the result were unbelievable. The people average weight gain that drank only diet pop was around 3 pounds, and the people that drank regular pop only average about .5 pounds of gained weight.

I thought that was interesting.

Now, this does not mean you should drink regular pop and feel like it is healthier. Just remember, a small can of pop has around 50g carbohydrates, and might I add those 50g carbohydrates are very high fructose sugars. What does that mean? It means if you don’t burn off those sugars in 15 minutes they will go straight to fat.

My recommendation is to focus getting most of your liquids from water as we are around 75% water, and it control most of are bodily functions. If your goal being weight loss than having a well-balanced diet, and a good weight loss program is a great way to start but make sure you follow a true weight loss program that focusing on balanced eating.

Hopefully you enjoyed this article and I wish you a great day!

Obesity is not merely indulging into overeating and having a bulky body. It is more like a gateway to severe health diseases. Obese people should not be ridiculed; rather they should be taken care off. Obesity is calculated according to the body mass index (BMI) of a person’s body. Dividing the weight of a person in pounds by the square of his height in meters we get the BMI calculated. If an individual’s BMI is 30 or above then he falls under the category of an obese.

Obese people develop certain diseases such as high cholesterol, hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis etc. Besides having these health problems, they find it difficult to adjust themselves in the society. They develop stress and can even fall into depression. Hence, obesity is such an alarming condition that if ignore can lead to grave consequences.

Earlier, joining a fitness centre was the only solution to reduce weight. But today the scenario has changed. Medical science has come up with various weight reducing drugs in the market. Didrex can be an appropriate medication for you if you want to reduce weight in short span of time.

Didrex is the brand name for Benzphetamine. It falls under the category of an anorectic drug. It is recognized as an appetite suppressant that is used along with proper diet, exercises and behavior therapy. It decreases the appetite by stimulating the brain and increasing the heart rate and blood pressure.

One pill of didrex should be taken empty stomach daily with a full glass of water. This medicine is usually taken for 8-12 weeks. Do not take the medication more than as prescribed by your doctor as it can be habit forming and can make you physically or psychologically dependant on it. Do not suddenly stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, if you have been taking it since long.

The side-effects of didrex are quite similar to those of any other weight reducing drug. One may experience breathlessness, irregular heart beat, restlessness, anxiety, nervousness, severe headache, blurred vision etc.

Be cautious while driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities as didrex can cause dizziness. If you are a pregnant lady, do not take didrex because it can cause birth defects in an unborn baby.

Nursing mothers should consult their doctor before consuming didrex. It can be harmful for your child as it can pass into breast milk.

Didrex if taken during late hours can lead to insomnia. Therefore, one must avoid taking it late in the day.

In case you miss a dose just take it the moment you realize you have missed it. Do not try to double it by taking two or more doses at the same time.

Didrex give you the opportunity to reduce tremendous amount of weight within a short span of time. Take the medicine and realize the change in your personality.

Clarence Carter received training as a healthcare scientist. She has been working in the same field and writes informative articles, weight loss being her pet subject. To find Weight Loss Drug,Cheap Diet Pills,Phentermine, Didrex visit http://www.weight-loss-drug.co.uk
